Dear SNAMES members,

The inaugural issue of the SNAMES eReview is our electronic tool to present snippets of information on the latest developments in our society. In each issue, you will also find upcoming events and activities so that you will continue to participate in these activities which are planned for you. From time to time, we may also use the SNAMES eReview to communicate announcements or news to you to keep you updated on the developments within our industry. We hope that you will find this eReview useful and helpful. We also welcome any suggestions to make the eReview even better and all contributions (articles, reflections, news, and even cartoons, etc) would be welcomed! SNAMES ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT

A total of 140 golfers took part in the 2005 SNAMES Annual Golf Tournament played at the Lake Course of the Raffles Country Club on 16th September 2005. Golfers started checking from noon and had lunch at the terrace before hopping onto the buggies. Tee off time at 1315 and the last golfer in at about 1800 hrs. Cocktail was held at the Raffles Lounge followed by a sumptuous 9 course dinner at the Shanshui Palace.

We are honoured to have BG Tay Lim Heng Chief Executive of MPA join us amidst his busy schedule.

Format of play was based on System 36 Stableford System.

SNAMES - MAN B&W TECHNICAL TALK

This years SNAMES - MAN B&W Technical Talk was held at the seminar room of M Hotel. The talk was well attended by over 100 participants comprising mainly SNAMES members and other guests.

MAN presented “New Developments in CP Propeller Design  and Technology”
 
At the end of the talk, MAN B&W sponsored a lavish buffet dinner with free flow of beer for the attendees.

 SNAMES JOINS PAAMES!

SNAMES recognizes the importance of outreach to regional marine technical societies and have officially joined the Pan Asian Association of Marine Engineering Societies (PAAMES).

PAAMES comprises 14 other members which are -  The Society of Naval Architects of Korea, Shanghai Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, The Japan Society of Naval Architects and Ocean Engineering, The Hong Kong Institute of Marine Technology, The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers - Mechanical, Marine & Naval Architects and Chemical Division, Japan Institute of Navigation, The Japan Institution of Marine Engineering, Union of Scientific and Engineering Association, China Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers,  The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology, East Asia Division, Jiangsu SNAME, The Society of Shipbuilding Engineering of Heilongjiang Province, Korean Society of Marine Engineering and Korean Society of Ocean Engineers.

The 2nd meeting of PAAMES was held in Busan, Korea and SNAMES is represented by Vice President, Mr. Fabian Chew and Chairman of Awareness Committee, Mr. Nicholas Koh.

We are also looking at affiliation with other marine engineering societies in the region, and enabling SNAMES to participate in technical exchanges and networking.

So far, SNAMES has affiliation agreements with the following: ImarEST, RINA, Shanghai SNAME. Discussions are still ongoing with JASNOE and HK Institute of Engineering as of review release date.
MEMBERS DATABASE AND SUBSCRIPTION UPDATE

Members’ subscription is the income for the society to run the activities and programmes.

We appeal to those who have not paid to please pay their subscription as soon as possible. For those who have paid, we thanked you for your prompt payment. And please make arrangements to collect your Members gifts if you have yet to do so.

In addition, as a gentle reminder, all Members subscriptions for year 2006 will be due on 1st January.
At the same time, we are updating the data of all our members. We would appreciate if members could send us your latest contact details, if there are any changes. To verify your details, please contact Joan.
We would like to apologise to all members who may have received repeated mails and those who have not received any mails. We are correcting this and ask for your patience and understanding in the meantime.
